Delray Beach FL

Hi Everyone,

It’s after midnight and we are still working. We leave 9 days from now on our great big adventure, and we are beginning to feel the excitement and inevitability of leaving. We have an incredible amount of work to do – we are packing all our personal and family items for storage; we are giving away or selling everything we can (we just did our first eBay auction very successfully – we sold our two kayaks); we are ordering what we need for the first stage of the trip; we are in communication with a number of people about our trip; and we are having to think 3 years out on anything that may come up while we are gone. We also have to make sure that Alex is completely set to run the house while we are gone, and make sure he is on all accounts and so on. It’s a good thing that we are no strangers to major projects, because our project management skills are getting a great workout.

We have a couple of fun things that have happened just in the last few days. Just for kicks, I wrote our story to one of the companies whose catalogue I receive – a catalogue for active wear for women – and we got a reply that they liked our story, that they are including us in the upcoming July update on their website in their Women In Motion “gallery”, and that they may use us in an upcoming catalogue. We will be sure to see them when we go through San Diego, and I’m sure they’ll be delighted in our progress – we will have covered 4300 miles by then and will be on the verge of heading into Mexico.

Another fun thing is that we had an interview today with a reporter from the Sun Sentinel – a major South Florida newspaper – and we will have a photographer taking pictures of us tomorrow morning on our bikes. Both Chelsea and I have been interviewed for newspaper articles for various things over the years, and we are no strangers to media, so we were especially delighted to see how seasoned and fun he was. We have no idea how the article will turn out, but we really enjoyed the interview, and that was great in and of itself. Mike, the reporter, asked some very thought-provoking questions, and Chelsea and I found ourselves talking things over long after the interview had ended. We really enjoyed his interviewing style. When we find out the date the article will be out, we’ll let you know.

And if this all isn’t great enough, we got word today that Burley is giving us a wholesale discount on our Nomad trailers. We are seriously delighted, and we will be adding Burley to our sponsors list. We can’t wait to get the trailers, and we can’t wait to get pictures that we can post for you to see.

Chelsea is finishing up her private bookkeeping clients, and we are both working on getting the website completely updated. I am putting in a goodly number of ours on our two beta site projects, and really enjoying the work – it’s so interesting that it doesn’t feel like work. Again, I am really excited thinking about having them go live.

It’s nearing 1 a.m. and I need some sleep to get through tomorrow, so I’ll end now, but I think it bodes really well for the trip that I am actually doing our first blog before we even leave! I can’t promise when I’ll do another one, but I will for sure if we continue to get great news about new sponsors and new exposure.

Best regards,
Rosemary
