Wounded Warrior Ointment – www.woundedwarriorointment.com – Wounded warrior is for external application, and it works well on abrasions, acne, bites, blisters, burns, cuts, fever blisters, inflammation, itching, mosquito bites, poison ivy, rashes, sunburn, sun poison, wound healing & pain relief. We ourselves have used it on fire ant bites, scrapes, mosquito bites, and cuts and we’ve found that it really speeds up the healing. It can also lower the likelihood of scarring. We won’t travel without it anymore!
Brave Soldier – http://www.bravesoldier.com – first aid products, face and body care, sunscreen, antiseptic healing lotions; all natural ingredients; for regular active people all the way through hard core sports enthusiasts; their "products provide protection from harsh environmental elements such as the sun, wind, aging and the razor blade, making it a little bit easier to be brave"; they’ve gotten great reviews in the adventure travel press from those who have used the products in the field. They have a number of mens products. We’re taking some on our trip and we’ll report back.
*Update* We’re now using the Clean Skin Gentle Cleanser body wash and it’s very nice. It has a clean natural smell, works well on the skin, and goes a long way. The sunscreen worked really well too – it’s one of our favorites. No sunburns with it, it lasted a long time, was not a grit magnet, was much easier to get off than Aloe Gator. It protects against UVA/ UVB, it’s water resistant, non greasy, and has zinc oxide.
Bite Blocker Mosquito Repellent – http://www.biteblocker.com – from their website – "tropical, all natural, DEET FREE insect repellent. Sweat proof, water proof, child safe, effective on mosquitoes, black flies, sand fleas and other gnats and pests. A single application keeps them away for hours, yet it’s safe for the skin and the environment." We have been using BiteBlocker from Magellan’s, and have found it to be a highly effective all natural mosquito repellent, but it doesn’t work very well against starved swarms of no-see-ums.
*Update* It’s still one of our favorites.
Crocodile Mosquito Repellent – http://www.dancingroots.com – from their website – "Crocodile!® is an all natural herbal insect repellent that drives insects away. It’s effective on mosquitoes, black flies, sand fleas and other gnats and pests. A single application keeps them away for hours, yet it’s safe for the skin and the environment." It’s gotten great reviews.
*Update* We’ve tried it and loved the smell, but it didn’t work against the mosquitoes or no-see-ums although it might have worked in a less intense situation than we were in. It also left a very greasy feeling. But the smell sure is great!
Beat It! Insect Repellent – www.jadeandpearl.com/natural-deet-free-insect-repellents.htm – from their website – “BEAT IT!® is a deet free herbal insect repellant is for all nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. It’s bug busting strength comes from an essential oil combination.”
We have found that BEAT IT! is good for no-see-ums, although we haven’t tried it at any really intense campsites yet.
*Update* This is still one of our favorite bug sprays. We also discovered that they sell herbal tinctures. We can’t wait to try a few of them!
Fitter First – www.fitter1.com – a number of products focusing on physical fitness, especially stability, mobility, and agility.
Radius – www.radiustoothbrush.com – toothbrushes with an innovative design. All versions have a round head, some even have replaceable heads and a handle made of recycled products. Also, every toothbrush is specifically left or right handed.
We’re using the Source toothbrush. It’s super light, the handle is made of recycled and recyclable materials, and it’s reusable. The head is reversible for right or left handed users. We carry spare heads, which we change out whenever we need to. We have really loved these toothbrushes, and we love the environmental friendliness of them.
Mexitan – www.mexitan.com – We discovered Mexitan in the summer of 2008 in our ongoing quest for the ultimate healthy sunscreen. They sell sunscreen and mosquito repellent made with no chemical fragrances or chemical preservatives, no parabens or animal testing, PABA free, and no mineral oils. All sunscreens have UVA and UVB protection, and are hypoallergenic.
One nice thing is that they have biodegradable labels for eco-resorts, so if you’re headed out to Mexico to one of the eco-resorts, order from Mexitan and you’ll be able to use your own sunscreen in the resort.
We found their customer service to be excellent, and they have same day shipping.
